American increases service to Latin America
January 27, 2012
American Airlines is expanding its service to Latin America with additional flights between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Passengers on the route will be the first to fly American's new Boeing 777-300ER, which when delivered later this year will be the airline's largest plane, with 365 seats.
American was the first U.S. airline to order the new plane, which will have fully lie-flat first- and business-class seats and Wi-Fi capability.
American will ramp up the number of weekly flights between Dallas/Fort Worth and Sao Paulo from seven times a week to 12 starting June 14. Also that day, flights from Miami to Brasilia and to Belo Horizonte, both in Brazil, will increase from five and three times a week, respectively, to daily.
New service between Miami and Manaus, Brazil, will also begin in June on the 160-seat Boeing 737-800.
Manaus will be American's seventh destination in Brazil.
"We recognize the opportunity of the Latin American market," American's Chief Commercial Officer Virasb Vahidi said in a written statement. "Our increased network announcements, along with the deployment of the 777-300ER, emphasizes American's dedication to the region."
Earlier this month, American announced it would pull back on other destinations. For instance, it dropped its service from Chicago to New Delhi. AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, filed for bankruptcy in November.
