New Norwegian Cruise Line ship to sail from Miami
April 18, 2012
The second of two new Norwegian Cruise Line ships currently under construction will sail year-round from Miami, the company announced today.
Norwegian says the 144,000-ton, 4,000-passenger Norwegian Getaway will be the largest ship ever to home port year-round in the city when it arrives in spring 2014.
As previously announced, the Norwegian Getaway's sister ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, will sail from New York when it debuts in May 2013.
Norwegian Cruise Line has been sailing its ships from Miami since 1966, longer than any other cruise brand, and currently has three vessels operating seasonally out of the city.
Norwegian did not announce the inaugural itineraries for the Norwegian Getaway, saying they would be revealed later this year.
Currently under construction at a shipyard in Germany, the Norwegian Getaway was named by a USA TODAY reader in a contest held here at the Cruise Log last year.
