Costa Bounces Back with Higher Bookings for Easter Cruises
April 5, 2012
Costa Cruises, beset with negative publicity after the Jan. 13 sinking of the Concordia, has seen some positive bounce-back in the past two weeks.
In that period, the Italian line said in a statement that booking volumes for 2012 Easter cruises exceeded the corresponding figures for its Easter cruises last year.
The company, which is the only Italian-flagged cruise company, has five ships operating in the Mediterranean this Easter.
Costa neoRomantica departed March 31 on a nine-day Western Mediterranean cruise round-trip from Savona, Italy; Costa Mediterranea sails today, April 4, on an 11-day cruise to Greece, Israel and Turkey; Costa Deliziosa departs April 6 on a five-day round-trip from Savona; Costa Serena leaves April 8 on a one-week Western Mediterranean round-trip from Savona; and Costa Pacifica also departs April 8 on an 11-night cruise round-trip Savona.
Costa also is operating one-week cruises in the Caribbean on Costa Atlantica and Costa Luminosa, one-week cruises to the United Arab Emirates and Oman from Dubai on flagship Costa Favolosa, and two-week itineraries on Costa Classica from Singapore to Malaysia and Thailand.
Beyond Easter, Costa’s new mini-cruises aboard Costa Luminosa, Costa Atlantica and Costa Deliziosa in the Mediterranean are booking strong, and are aimed at first-time cruisers who only have limited time.
